Inside Dahlasi

Exclusive interview with BIB, Designer & Creative Director of Dahlasi

What Is Dahlasi?

BIB: Dahlasi is a creative expression of myself and a brand identity I’ve been quietly conceptualizing for the past few years. The name is derived from the word Dalasi, the currency of my home country, The Gambia. I’ve never liked the idea of putting hard labels on my creative identity or having to verbally explain myself. But if I had to describe Dahlasi, it’s a label rooted in Gambian-American culture and unique expression. It is a representation of who I am both culturally and creatively. It also serves as an opportunity for my audience to finally buy into BIB, which is and always has been strictly a personal brand. Never to be sold.

Jayden: Ahead of the runway show for Dahlasi, what are some things people should expect in comparison to the last runway you organized last year?

BIB: The Dahlasi 2026 Debut show will be a huge change in comparison to last year's BIB Reimagined: Modern Fashion Show. With Dahlasi being my official designer label, this show serves as the introduction into my artistic world that has never been seen.

Dahlasi will stand completely separate from what you typically see coming out of Atlanta. I believe the work will soon speak for itself.

Jayden: If there was one piece of advice you could give to other driven designers, like yourself, what would it be?

BIB: Look past your surroundings and circumstances. You can literally be whoever and whatever in this life, regardless of what the world tells you. As long as you have a clear vision, understand your path, and work at it relentlessly, you can make anything happen. Beyond funding, connections, and knowledge, the most important resource you have as a designer is your creativity. We all have to walk different paths to reach different goals. Wherever your path takes you, never stop creating.

Jayden : What type of clothing should we expect from Dahlasi?

BIB: The color green is the staple tone of Dahlasi, which I refer to as Bleu. Whether it’s womenswear, menswear, casual or luxury streetwear, you can expect a lot of Bleu. I’ve always found myself in love with the color green, whether it’s my personal wardrobe or design process. I decided to outright claim the color as my own, so much so that I gave it a different name. Why? Because why not.
