Who is Electrosex?

Electrosex is an up-and-coming DJ and clothing designer; in his words, a full-on creative. Electro’s love for music started early in middle school and high school, from listening to chopped and screwed music and experimenting with an E-DJ mobile app. Guitar Hero also played a vital role in Electro’s early love for music, as he felt a personal connection to the characters and the way that the music made him feel. Believe it or not, the game's influence spilled over into his love for fashion. Electro stated that he admired the way the characters dressed and could see himself aligning his image with their style. True love for fashion came in middle school, amid the transition from private to public school. He felt as if he had to start putting things together more intentionally and began experimenting with different styles of dressing. His glimpse at becoming a designer wasn’t anything close to surprising, given that he and his cousin used to make imaginary floor plans for a restaurant they hoped to open one day.

The Beginning of His DJ Career

Electro began to DJ in college. While in college, he knew he always wanted to start a clothing brand, but felt as if it was smarter to focus on DJing first to build his personal brand so he could introduce it at a successful point in his life, which ended up paying off. Electro being in college would not last long, as he took the risk and dropped out of school to fully focus on his gift of being a great DJ. He would later move to the city of Atlanta, and everything changed for the better.

Electro moved to the city and hit the ground running. Soon after hosting a few of his own events and booking gigs, he got a call from one of Atlanta’s most notable underground artists, Apollo Red, the cousin of the infamous Playboi Carti. What started as a simple studio meeting turned into something far more unexpected. Apollo would eventually bring Electro into his camp to be his personal DJ. This new job meant going on tour with Apollo as well. “Tell everyone you’re YVL now,” was when Electro knew it was time to take things to the next level. Electro would go on to be alongside Apollo during Opium's group tour, Antagonist.

The Marathon

“Just keep believing," says Electro. His journey, fueled by Nipsey Hustle’s marathon slogan, keeps his mind level-headed. It's easy to want to rush success, but for individuals like Electro, who remind us that it's okay to take our time when pursuing it. It’s important to believe in yourself, no matter how long it takes. “Don’t be selfish and think you might be the only one out of your group to succeed,” says Electro. He claims that if someone around you is getting blessed, then your blessing isn’t too far away. Though the recent rise of Electro seems like an overnight success story, it’s actually deeper than most might consider. His relationship with Apollo dates back to their middle school years. The two had always believed in each other at a young age. At the time, Electro would often spend time at Apollo’s house making beats and recording music videos for songs he had created. Early on, Apollo had given him the name DJ Ken. The relationship between the two would only grow larger, Electro at times even leaving work on his lunch breaks to go kick it at Apollo’s house.

Recognition

Electro’s recognition would only grow larger since being on tour with all of the Opium members. Wake up, Filthy called him different, a sign of Electro being able to stand out among most others within the industry. Destroy Lonely often complimented his outfits, and fans started to appreciate his work more. Whether it’s rocking out on stage or putting on a great outfit, Electro had his eyes opened and realized he had to take things to a higher level. He was constantly in the room alongside greats. Electro knew he had to lock in even harder and used the confidence that everyone gave him as his battery pack. People at the highest levels started to give him their respect, and he deserved every ounce of it.

The Future

Electro’s future success is nothing but bright. In five years, he sees himself headlining festivals and doing world tours. His clothing brand will become nothing less than successful due to his passion and persistent work ethic. Electro is on pace to not only be successful within the music industry but also the creative scene. It is important to remember that minimal progress is normal while being creative, but minimal progress turns into maximum progress with the right work ethic, which Electro displays organically. Electro’s advice to others is to never give up and look away when judgment comes your way. Continue to take time to focus more on the quality of work rather than the quantity; this will lead to you creating something standout and is innovative instead of something that will blend in with what already exists.
